Subterranean Termites live in colonies in the soil, building vertical tunnels that look like mud tubes above the ground level so that they can search for food. Because subterranean termites will die if exposed to air for an extended period of time, the tunnels provide protection from the elements, allowing workers to carry food to the nest. Subterranean termites can tunnel through cracks in concrete, so slab homes are not exempt from termites. |  It's a revolution! Baiting vs. Barrier treatments |
While barrier treatments only exclude termites from a structure with a chemical barrier, they do not suppress or eliminate termites. Termites are still able to probe for gaps in the barrier, and find a way into the structure. |
There are several advantages to baiting for termite control but two are maramount. First, a termite bait actually supresses activity by a termite colony, there in reducing or eliminating the potential of the colony to attack the structure. Secondly, this process dramatically reduces the amounts of pesticide necessary for termite control. |
